Focus (Common Sense)

Focus (Common Sense)

If focus were all that important to a designer’s success, then why on earth would God have designed so many flowers? I mean, they all do the same thing: make pollen, attract pollinators, get the pollen to the ovaries, and make viable seed.  Once you’ve designed a system that works, why make so many versions? (I don’t know His design intent, but I know a prototype when I smell one.)

No, focus is an important concept to engineering, but designers need to refract. Scatter any glimmer of an idea into its component parts. Mix it with waves of ideas from others. Shake it until it vibrates. In time, sympathetic concepts cohere into a single, laser-like dot in the center of your target.

And then you can focus.
